I have just come across this article and although post a few years ago it brought back memories. I went through the same process from 1965 onwards going to HS dynamics Hatfield in 1969 (the only one to do so). Would be interested to hear from other ex Apps.

Peter I just found your article which I read with great interest. I joined the DH Technical School at Lostock in the 1954 intake, eventually moving to Hatfield as you did, where I lived in digs in Colney Heath. I also did a short spell as a Flight Observer and had one trip on Target Aquisition with the Comet when we flew up to Warton airfield for trials with a E E Lightning. the problem with that beast was its very short endurance, generally it managed about 3 runs past the Comet before landing to refuel, when it overheated its brakes. No problem to us as we cruised in a big circle over Lancashire at about 30000 ft eating pork pies and drinking coke. Happy days!. I finished up on the Bluestreak Project as a Development Engineer until it was scrapped by Chapman Pincher of the Daily Express. I then went to the Commercial products Division on Flowmeters and I stayed in that specialist area for the rest of my career, which took me to many countries and gave me lots of interest. I still do a little bit of Consultancy when an opportunity arises, preferably somewhere warm, Malaysia is my favourite. Thanks for sharing your memories. Best regards Ken Stothard
