- I have watched the progress of restoring the Comet 4 over the years from Devon. My reason is a great love for this world leader. I was born in Hatfield on the edge of the de Havilland aerodrome. In July 1949 I watched from my bedroom window as The Comet made its maiden flight, casting its shadow over our garden as it landed after that historic step in aviation history. Years later as an RAF airframe fitter I was to service and fly with 3 especially modified Mk 2s. May I wish you success with the project and look forward to seeing the final results. Kind regards, Ken Pegden
